Things to Keep in Mind before your first Motorcycle Road Trip

It's exciting to see more & more people beginning to ride motorbikes and taking place roadtrips either on their own or with buddies. Primarily when individuals begin riding, they might recognize very little regarding exactly how to start riding easily on somewhat longer road trips in addition to simply the city riding. As they continue riding, they make even more & a lot more likeminded riders & learn a lot from them & their riding style. This little compilation is aimed to aid those that are just beginning & is from an individual learnings & perspective of a relatively new cross country motorcyclist so should be helpful.

1. Pick a comfy bike

Whatever kind of bike you pick, you should always be comfortable with it. In case you zero in on a bike that needs specific modifications to guarantee it fits for you to handle, get it done instantly. Some typical adjustments that motorcyclists make is obtaining a various handlebar, an extra comfy seat, guards, much better fronts lights if they are going to do great deals of night riding, a new exhaust, and so on. Bear in mind, it's not practically looking awesome on the bike, yet also riding it well.

2. Dress to ride

For far away riding, constantly try & put on riding pants, ankle boots (safety and security shoes can be a replacement), riding jacket & naturally a complete face headgear. Or there is the choice of knee & arm joint guards or body armor. Motorcycling gear can easily be acquired online or in moto shops. Attempt to get as close a size as possible, lose & baggy equipment or garments will just be a disruption & reason pain. When completely geared up, you may really feel heavy & uncomfortable initially, once you hop on the bike, recognizing that you are riding safer will make your riding more fun & provide you higher confidence. Plus you get more of the biker really feel on a lighter note.

3. Don't over pack, pack light

There's a great variety of motorcycle travel luggage available to choose from- beginning with metal to soft fabric luggage. There are saddle bags that you can harness on the rear seats of your bike, container bags which magnetically hug your container & can lug lighter things, tailbags that can be bungeed to the rear, etc. These also are readily available online or in moto shops & been available in different dimensions & styles to match your bike kind. When packing, make certain to bring as much non reusable stuff you can which can be used & discarded. This will assist you minimize a great deal of weight as you take a trip. Do not unnecessarily lug a great deal of changes of clothes, rather attempt & wash & recycle your clothes.

4. Remain hydrated

A lot of individuals do not focus on the water aspect on a motorbike roadtrip. Purchase a hydration pack which is essentially a canteen in a bag with a tube which you can sling over your shoulder & beverage water from without needing to take off the helmet or perhaps quiting. Keeping on your own well moisturized throughout your trip will save on all the exertion as a result of dehydration.

5. Know Your course

Not everybody are wizard with instructions & bearing in mind roadways, yet having a fair sense of which direction you are headed in & what route you are taking aids to prevent losing time getting lost. Attempt & bring a screenshot of the map on your mobile or a printout of the same in case you intend to. Don't feel shy of asking locals en route for directions & incase you see various other bikers on the way, you can also consult them, for all you recognize, you may simply get to know of an extra fascinating path. Appreciate the ride and also attempt & watch various other motorcyclists' itineraries before you start.

6. Take breaks

It's not a marathon unless you're getting the saddle sore or bum burner! Know when your bike & body need a break & quit & rest for a few mins every couple of kms or every couple of hrs depending on the surface. Try not to take a lot of breaks yet just important, or else, it just breaks the riding flow. When on a break, check if you have sufficient water for alcohol consumption & sufficient fuel in the storage tank, so that you can prepare your following break appropriately.

7. Beginning on a light stomach

Consume light morning meal, attempt an early lunch & do not overindulge. Large meals take a lot of energy to digest as well as will certainly make you sluggish.  Carry some treats & energy bars if you are the appetite pangs kinds.

Riding in Groups – Top tips to have a safe motorcycle trip with friends

Getting out and riding during a group together with your mates may be a fine thanks to spending a sunny day. Here are some tips to form your motorbike ride both fun and safe.

Group dynamics

It’s best if all riders are at an identical riding level on bikes with similar performance, which the group size is little to avoid holdups.

If you've got inexperienced riders, they're going to hold the remainder of the group up – the group can only make progress at the speed of the slowest rider. A slow rider will frustrate faster riders.

Depending on the sort of riding you're doing, if one person features a bike that doesn’t have the performance of the opposite bikes, they're going to drop off the rear of the group and might take risks to undertake to stay up.

It’s difficult for vehicles to overtake an outsized group of motorbikes (not that this is often usually the case), but it’s also challenging for an outsized group of motorbikes to form their way through traffic, too.

Objectives

What is the rationale for the ride? Is it to go to a selected town? Is it to ride a selected interesting road? does one need to be somewhere at a particular time? Is it to enhance skills? confirm everyone knows why the ride has been organized.

If it’s your first ride of the year after an opportunity over winter, confirm that you’ve had a touch of practice beforehand because group riding is often tiring – there’ll be an extended distance and you’ll be concentrating on maintaining your position within the group. You won’t necessarily be ready to stop once you want to due to peer pressure.

Food and drink

Has every rider been to the restroom and do they need a drink and snacks (if required). Riding while thirsty and hungry is distracting. If you propose on getting food and drink halfway through the ride, avoid heavy fatty foods and alcohol.

Planning the route

Having an opportunity every 90-120 minutes is right so that riders don’t get cramp or fatigue, especially if it’s hot and therefore the road is challenging. The route should be realistic to realize. make sure there won’t be inclemency, particularly if you’re heading into the mountains. you'll use Google Maps to ascertain if there are any problems; it'll offer you an estimate of the time it'll fancy completing the route.

Someone within the group should carry a primary aid kit. If you’re riding out into the center of nowhere, a private locator beacon is often useful, as can leaving details of your route with someone who isn’t going.

Fuel stops

Every rider should know where the fuel stops are and every one rider should reach the ride with enough fuel to form it there. Having to form random stops breaks up the group, and other people at the top of the pack need to backtrack to form sure everything is OK.

Leave egos

If you’ve got a mate with an ego and something to prove, they shouldn’t come on the ride.

Speed

Have fun, but don’t break the law. Watch your approaching speeds into tight corners, and be particularly careful if you're filtering through traffic as drivers won’t necessarily expect you.

Riding through urban areas

Trying to urge a gaggle through a populated area together is difficult due to traffic lights, roundabouts, intersections, and other obstacles. Some riders could be comfortable with filtering, et al. not. Ultimately the group will get opened up and you’ll get to stop somewhere anyway. Meeting out of the town is more convenient and other people can make their way there for the beginning.

Being punctual

Set a gathering time and a time of departure. People should arrive before the meeting time with a full tank of fuel (unless you’ve agreed to prevent somewhere along the route) so that most are then able to re-evaluate the route and do some quick safety checks.

Don’t delay the beginning of a ride because one among the riders can’t manage their time; it means you’re delaying everyone else. If you’ve already discussed the route, they will catch up.

Road position

Decide who will ride at the front and who will ride at the rear, and swap numbers just in case there’s a drag. make sure every rider has experience riding during a group and if they haven’t explained the key points:

  • Ride in a staggered formation
  • Don’t tailgate
  • Don’t speed
  • What is your overtaking policy?

Riding during a staggered formation is sweet for straights because it gives each rider more visibility of the road ahead, but riders should fall out of staggered formation when approaching corners otherwise half the riders are going to be on the incorrect line.

Put an experienced rider upfront as they're liable for spotting problems and setting an appropriate pace. If you're riding with inexperienced riders, put them within the middle and put another experienced rider behind them.
Riders shouldn't become fixated on the rider ahead. they ought to pick their own lines and their own speed. If the rider ahead makes an error, any rider fixated on them will likely make an equivalent mistake. Always remember to wear motorcycle riding clothing. You must know the importance of wearing motorcycle riding clothes.

How to choose best helmet for motorcycle riders

Helmets don’t come cheap and more importantly, their purpose cannot be taken for granted. Hence it is very important that you make sure that your investment on a helmet is worth the time and money once it sits on your head protecting you during the rides.

1. The Type of Helmet
You have witnessed several types of helmets that are available in the market from full-faced, half-faced, modular, off-road and so on. You need to first finalize what is your need and what are you comfortable with. A full-faced helmet is usually the obvious choice for a biker, but if you are riding a scooter, a half-faced helmet will suffice your need as well.

2. The Material
Most helmets are usually made of fibre-glass composites while the high-end ones are made out of carbon composites and Kevlar. The interiors of the helmet have cushioning with air mesh to soak up the sweat and keep it the insides clean and dry. Do not purchase the plastic ones as they will break even from a fall. The helmet is one of the most important safety gear for rides so the material should be of high quality.

3. The Visor
The visor is available in clear as well as tinted shades. Choose what you are comfortable with. A dark tinted visor could make seeing at night very difficult; whereas clear visors will let in the sunlight during the day. Visors also develop scratches faster and can hamper the visibility of the rider. Ask for UV protection visors, which are better in protecting than the stock visors.

4. The Fit
If you remember wearing a helmet as a kid, you will also remember it used to wobble up and down. This shows that the helmet is oversized and not of your fit. Keep this in mind when trying out a helmet. The helmet should have a snug fit and should not wobble or try to suffocate you by being too tight. The helmet will pop out in case of an accident if it is lost or too big.

Key Features of Motorcycle jackets

A motorcycle jacket is an important part of your safety gear. If you think you’ll save a few dollars and just wear your regular leather jacket, it would be a mistake, because a motorcycle jacket designed for riding has many additional features.

Features of motorcycle jackets:-

1) Fit:- Try on the jacket, and then assume the seating position you’re in on your bike. Reach forward as you would while holding the grips and make sure the sleeves are long enough to cover your wrists. Look for adjustable waists to fit different sizes and accommodate layers. Jackets need to be long enough to cover your lower back while riding.

2) Pockets:- On a jacket, you want both interior and exterior pockets. Preferably waterproof with good seals on exterior pockets.

3) Water Proof:- Finding breathable, waterproof jackets at an affordable price is a challenge. Although not as impractical as rain liners in pants, my first choice is to shun a waterproof liner in favor of a separate rain jacket.

4) Armor. The best jackets have padding at elbows, shoulders and back. A proper fit means padding will actually fall below your elbows when your arms are hanging straight but cover your elbows while flexed in your riding position.

Why you need to wear jeans while riding motorcycle.

If you think about safety while on the road, Jeans work just as well as the designated rider trousers. Most of the riders feel that the rider trousers are not even necessary to be worn at all. But they do not argue about the jeans at all. It is because the safest motorcycle jeans are one of the best accessories a rider can get.

Reasons why they are The Best

Comfort

Jeans come in different fits and stretches. With a wide variety to pick from depending on the kind of riding style one follows, Jeans provide the best options. The new riding jeans segment also comes with butt pockets to put pads in them.

That increases the comfort drastically for a longer duration of rides.

fitting

Continuing with the theme of being honest with yourself, it’s important to make sure that riding jeans fit properly. To ensure that, you need to think about the purpose of the jeans and what happens when they’re fulfilling that purpose.

Quality Material Of Jeans

PEKEV, the material you’re probably most familiar with, is a brand name for an aramid weave. Pushing the limits of Aramids and Ethylene fibres, we use only the highest quality spinning techniques available. Improving tensile strength and converting them into fabrics using exclusively elite blends we developed a 3rd generation PEKEV® fabric – this is one of the strongest and most stable fabrics in the world!

Extra Protection

Almost all riding jeans these days will offer additional crash protection in the form of body armour. Knee armour is most common, but many pairs of jeans also offer hip protection. Thanks to advanced products like D3O, this armour can often be relatively inconspicuous.

Importance of motorcycle clothing for riders.

Motorcycle protective gear is crucial when you’re riding. The acronym ATGATT is a ritual and mind-set that should be followed when you ride. Defensive riding can prevent most accidents, but protective gear, including motorcycle body armour, can save your life when defensive riding isn’t enough.
Riding a motorcycle is inherently dangerous. There is a saying in motorcycle culture that there are two types of riders: Those who have crashed, and those who haven’t crashed yet. Don’t let that scare you off, with the proper gear you can enjoy how amazing riding is while keeping your skin on your body. Along with providing collision protection, it is important that your gear function properly when you are in the saddle. When correctly fitted, motorcycle gear can even make you comfortable on the ride, allowing you to better focus on the street and the ride.

Gloves
Motorcycle riding gloves are all crucial for maintaining your hands safe, dry, and comfortable while manoeuvring your own ride.
Ensure that your gloves fit nicely and you're able to use all your hands without bending, and which you're able to use the handlebar controls efficiently.

Helmet
The very first thing you will need is a helmet. Some states (including the current state I live, Idaho) don’t have any sort of helmet law. You can ride with the wind in your hair and the bugs in your face. However, there are a lot of advantages of choosing to ride with a helmet rather than without one. Your face stays on your face. I’ve been in a couple different motorcycle accidents, and thankfully I’ve always been wearing full gear when the happen. There was one crash where my face was being dragged on the pavement for 20 feet. I had a full-face helmet though, and it allowed me to keep my nose on my face. Trust me, that’s not just hyperbole, people have literally ground off body parts when they are tumbling down a road after a crash. I like my face, and I want to keep it.

 JACKET
It's ideal, to begin with, leather or pekev lined motorcycle jacket. The right material and construction are extremely important when it comes to resisting abrasion, more commonly called "road rash."

The fantastic stuff is more expensive, however, the ideal choice will pay for itself in case you are ever to wreck.

Pants/Jeans
Don't ignore the importance of a proper pair of motorcycle pants. As with a jacket, riding in trousers of the ideal material can significantly minimize injuries in the event of an accident. And armour in the knees, buttocks, and waist all go a long way in protecting one, too.
Fit and comfort are critical. Imagine yourself riding for an elongated period of time when attempting anything on. Baggy pants can flap in the end; trousers that are too tight can inhibit circulation.

How to prepare for motorcycle ride ?

Operating a motorcycle takes different skills than driving a car; however, the laws of the road apply to every driver just the same. A comb...
